THE INTERNET AND INFORMATION RESOURCES FOR STATE AND PUBLIC LIBRARY DEVELOPMENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Abstract

This study is based on the use of the Internet and information resources for state and public library development in the 21st century. As a developing country, there is need for our libraries to create awareness of the Internet and to be connected to the Internet; as such our library users will have access to global information. The paper also examines the Internet through the provision of World Wide Web and E-Mail services. These are but the few provisions of the Internet. People require some form of information, in every field of life, hence the need for full exploitation of information resources as this paper points out. The paper states that State and Public Libraries play important role in the life of the community they serve. Therefore, to meet the need for Global information in this 21st century the Librarians should ensure that the Libraries and its users have access to information technology.
